If you have issues with damage to your teeth or areas where a filling isn’t enough to fortify and salvage the tooth, you may need a crown. A crown is also ideal as a cosmetic fix for discoloration of the teeth or other issues affecting your smile’s appearance. If you’ve wondered about dental caps or crowns, you should consult your dentist. If they feel you can benefit from this procedure, they will suggest it and cover the basics of the process.
Discoloration or damage to a tooth is common, and sometimes there are other solutions aside from major cosmetic procedures or veneers. Cosmetic caps or crowns serve many purposes in dentistry. For some patients, they provide them with a way to improve the appearance of their smile without pulling the tooth and replacing it with an implant or external replacement option.
Once you visit your dentist to assess the situation, they will let you know if you are a good candidate for cosmetic dental caps. If so, they will go over the process and any additional work that needs to be done at that time. In most cases, they will set up an appointment for the procedure later.
The procedure only takes two visits; Dr. Hanono will first remove any compromised tooth material and shape the tooth to the dimensions of the crown, so it holds firmly in place. Impressions of the mouth are then made to create the permanent crown. A temporary crown is placed until the crown is designed and ready. Once the crown is ready, you will return to have it cemented in place, and Dr. Hanono will provide the finishing touches to ensure the tooth looks natural and is ready for daily use.
The care and maintenance for a tooth crown or cap are the same as for your normal teeth. Regular brushing, flossing, and cleaning are essential to maintain your smile and prevent further discoloration or damage.
